Courier & Advertiser ( Angus & Mearns edition) 22 May 2010:

A DUNDEE soldier who was killed in a NAZI Bombing raid on a Cornish Army Camp will be remembered at a special Ceremony this year.

PRIVATE ROBERT MUNRO of the Royal Artillery's 58th Light Anti Aircraft Regiment ws one of 19 men who died when a lone German plane bombed PENHALE ARMY CAMP in CORNWALL on July 7th , 1940.

Many of the men who died had just returned to the UK after escaping from Dunkirk or Calais.

This year marks the 70th Anniversary of the tragedy and remembrance services will take place on July 17 and 18.

The Camp in PENHALE closed earlier this year aand a monument commemoratiing the fallen soldiers had been moved to nearby PERRANZABULOE ST PIRAN'S CHURCH where the 19 victims are buried. A rededication service is also scheduled.

However, organisers have been unable to trace any relatives of PRIVATE MUNRO. The son of ROBERT AND MARTHA MUNRO , he was 35 when he was killed.

Stuart Gray, whose father survived the raid, said " I have undertaken to try ot contact relatives of all victims of the 1940 Bombing and have been able over the past year to track down relatives of approximately half of them ."

Any relatives of PRIVATE MUNRO who want to attend the service in July should contact Mr Gray on 07810 450419.

(Maybe this should be copied onto the War Graves project being that Pte Robert Munro is from DUNDEE but buried in England )
