My photo of the First World War plaque isn't very clear, but I am able to tell that there is no-one named Nicol on this memorial.

On the memorial is listed an Alfred Goodman, I believe this surname to be in error and it should be Goodwin.
I have found the birth (in Leith) and marriage cert (in Blantyre) of Alfred James Goodwin, but no mention of anyone by the surname of Goodman having ever been born, lived or married in Blantyre.

WW1

(Glasgow Herald 13th April 1915)
"Official intimation has been received in Blantyre stating that Private Alfred Goodwin, of the 1st Battalion H.L.I., had been killed in action on March 21 at Neuve Chapelle. During the engagement he was tending to the injuries of a wounded comrade when he was struck on the face with a piece of shrapnel. He quickly recovered and was back again in the trenches in a few days, and was again slightly injured. Again he went back to the trenches when he received a bullet wound which proved fatal. He leaves a widow and two young children. He resided at Melbourne Place, Blantyre, was a native of Kilsyth, and had been in the Army for four years."
