Service No 201481 in A & S Highlanders, killed in action 14/11/1917 in Egypt. Alfred is on the Penpont War Memorial. He was born in Penpont on 7/9/1892. Can anyone help with further information. When joined etc. and what did he receive the MM for? Anything further would be a help.

His service file survives, in part.
He enlisted into 2nd, A & SH in November 1912 and landed in France on 10th August 1914 as Pte, 1082. He DOW ( GSW thigh l) at 43 Stat. Hosp., El Arif and was originally buried in another cemetery. The MM was in the LG in Dec 1917 which suggests the deed took place around Aug / Sept 1917. His NOK was is grandmother Elizabeth Hamilton, Bilboa Cott, Penpont. Parents both dead, 1919.
She received his MM in May 1918 _________________ Jim
