Cranstoun Church is just off the A68 in the policies to Oxenfoord Castle. (NT 384 656). On the outside wall of the Church, just opposite the entrance into the churchyard is the Ford United Free Church WWI War Memorial (just behind the tree)




To the Glory of God and in ever living memory of the men from Ford U.F Church who laid down their lives in the Great War 1914-1919.

There is only one entry for Andrew Durward in CWGC and SNWM, so I am doing something that I should not do, and that's presume its the right one!

Andrew Durward is also listed on the North Canongate School, Edinburgh memorial. As he had an MA I am guessing he was a schoolmaster there.

Andrew Durward is listed on the Moray House Edinburgh Provincial Training Centre Memorial

Which would confirm your theory.
