Skipness has a lovely and unusual memorial to the men of the village in the form of a small rustic cairn or pillar with a clock which stands by the kirk.
The inscription reads:
1914 - 1918
REMEMBER ALWAYS
THESE MEN
WHO DIED FOR
THEIR COUNTRY
and the men listed are:
Duncan Cook - Machine Gun Corps
Robery Lindsay - Gordon Highlanders
Dugald Lindsay - Australian Imperial Forces
It was unveiled on Monday 2nd January 1922 by Mrs. Lindsay who had lost two sons in the war.

(Glasgow Herald 29th May 1915)
"Private Robert Lindsay, 1st Gordon Highlanders, a native of Kintyre, was killed at Hill 60 on May 17. In a letter to his mother, Mrs William Lindsay, Rockfield, Skipness, the captain of his company says Private Lindsay was putting out barbed wire in the front of the trench when a stray bullet shot him through the heart. Private Lindsay all his days followed the sea. As a lad he was employed on Clyde tugs, and when he reached manhood he sailed foreign. At the outbreak of the war he was in South America, a member of a crew of a Glasgow steamer, but he returned home and enlisted in the Gordons. After only a fortnight's training at Aberdeen he was sent to France. In his early days he was a volunteer in the old 1st Renfrew at Greenock, where his mother resided for a time. A younger brother, Dugald Lindsay, is at the Dardanelles with the Australian contingent."
