Where is the memorial situated? Was it moved from it's location on the High Street as planned in 1930?

The Elgin War Memorial is still on High Street.

I'm not sure that it was ever moved. I'll see if I can find some pre-1930 photos.

It's location has not changed since it was unveiled on the Plainstones in 1922.

Interview with James Robertson.

"James served in Korea when he was only 19. One day he was asked to attend a funeral for his fallen colleagues. "I had never been to a funeral so I said yes. It was an awful site; there was a great row of bodies," he said. "When they say they died with their boots on they really did. "Somebody said do you know who’s lying there? Farquhar Button. It was sad for me that day."
He added: "It took years before we got his name on the war memorial at Elgin.

Could the Pte. Wm. McKenzie/MacKenzie of the Seaforths on this memorial be the below?

(Glasgow Herald 22nd May 1915)
"Mr W. McKenzie, baker, 21a Murdoch's Wynd, Elgin, has received information that his eldest son, Private W. McKenzie, 1st Seaforth Highlanders, was killed in action on May 9. Lieutenant Ranken, writing to Mr McKenzie says -"It will, I hope, be some consolation to you to know that he died gallantly attacking the enemy's trenches." Private McKenzie, who was only 20 years old, had served for about three years in the Seaforths. He was in India with his battalion when war broke out, and afterwards proceeded to the front."
