Following a request from myself, I have had confirmation from SNWM that Capt James Tait is to be added to SNWM. I cannot quite understand how he of all people was missed because he is something of a local hero (VC and MC) and he is listed on at least 6 local war memorials. He served with the Canadians but I have seen other Canadians and New Zealanders listed. When time allows I will have to do a check of other likely omissions from the Maxwelltown memorial to see if they have missed them as well.
Of Tait's six local war memorials, four of these are unlisted by UKNIWM! I have submitted one already and they have promised to add that. The others are on a long to-do list of UKNIWM additions and amendments I have to get around to. On the plus side, now that I email them, I get a positive response and every mail is acknowledged personally (not automated). Incidentally, if anyone else wishes to send in photos, 800X600 is their preferred resolution, they have a form for new memorials and can send you a draft, amendments I just send by email to Memorials@IWM.ORG.UK |

Well he already has an entry on CWGC, and is on several local War Memorials, that and his VC was checked with someone or other meant that I wasn't asked for further proof I guess. |

So does mine.
He is on CWGC as correct date 31/7/1917, he is on the Menin Gate - cut-off for entry is September 1917, he has an entry in the Perthshire advertiser of September 1917 saying killed in action 31st July 1917. He is listed as kia on the list of casualties in the War Diary. The SNWM has him for 4th October 1918 but Shepherd won't change it without a death certificate.
