In the event of a school/university, church asking for a fee to get photographs of a memorial, do we have to pay for these out our own pockets or is there a kitty in place.

Here is part of an email I received after asking for a photograph. I will keep the identity secret at the moment incase they do send me them for free. PM of the full message will go to David, Derek and Adam.

The war memorial feature in XXXXXX: A History and Guide, by XXXXX. Copies are available from the University's Publications Department. Publications / Reprographics also holds images of the war memorial. Please contact XXXXX XXXXX or tel XXXXX XXXX. I am not sure what the charging policy for photographs is.

I'd be inclined to turn this one on its head and inform the school/university/church that their publication would receive free publicity on this website in exchange for information?

We have no kitty for paying for photographs. Also, I DO NOT want anyone to have to pay out of their own pocket for photographs.

We should all be contributing our OWN photographs which we have individually taken, and not relying on a third party to provide them. If we can't personally take a picture, then we leave it for the moment and try again another time.

I think it's time to initiate a policy on this. I'll discuss this with the Moderators and come back on this.

UI appreciate that some people have contacted organisations such as schools and churches, askign for them to send us photographs. Please do not continue doing this until further notice. We really need to sort out some form of policy as regards this and I'll discuss this with the moderators.

In the meantime, if a photograph was not taken by you personally DO NOT POST IT ON THIS FORUM.

This thread is locked until we have this sorted out.
