Hi Paul, I believe I got an e-mail from the site www.wargraves.org.uk who informed me that the names did not appear on any war memorial anywhere in the UK.
I realise of course that no-one has recorded ALL memorials yet. Maybe they meant that they do not appear yet.
I'll dig out what info I have so far and post here on this thread shortly.

Alexander Redmond (Private) Machine Gun Corps died 01/09/1918 as a POW in Glageon camp.
Service No. 83541.

James Redmond (Lance Corporal) Irish Guards killed in action 16/03/1917
Service No. 6445.

John Brooks (Lance Corporal) Cameron Highlanders deceased 03/05/1917
Service No. S/18260.

I believe the above to be my Gt Uncles who perished in the First World War, but can find no evidence that they are remembered anywhere except for Alexander who is in the books at Edinburgh Castle.

Other places to look.

According to SDGW, Alexander had a residence of Glasgow and James had a residence of Lanark, John was resident in Paisley. Worth checking the civic and church memorials in those areas.

Paisley's roll of honour (with names) is a book in Paisley library. James is not listed on the Lanark memorial. The Glasgow ROH is in the City Chambers.

None are listed in the Glasgow Evening Times Roll of Honour.

The CWGC details confirm their NOK did not provide additional information when requested. The reasons for not returning the forms are many and varied.

Thomas Bromley aged 22 died whilst a prisoner of the Japanese.
He was aboard the Suez Maru along with 640 other POW's which was sunk by the US submarine Bonefish. Although approximately 250 men managed to get out of the hold, they were subsequently massacred by the Japanese escort vessel.

Unusually a fathers death in the previous war is detailed in the CWGC additional info for the son who perished in the Second.

It has been a while since my last visit to the site.
2010 saw me visit France where in 2 cemeteries I found my Gt Uncle Redmond brothers, Alexander and James.
(Not sure about the Brooks Gt uncle yet).
