Lieutenant James P Anderson is quoted on the school memorial for the Nicolson Institute in Stornoway. He is listed as serving with the Royal Scots during the First World War.

I have asked locally, but nobody knows any more about him beyond the fact he was an MA-qualified teacher - and there is apparently no trace of him at the Royal Scots. CWGC refers to a 2nd Lt J P Anderson who died in December 1918 and lies buried in Perth. He served with the Seaforth Highlanders. There is no indication of any link to the Western Isles.

Anyone able to help?

Guido

If he was an MA he should be in a University Roll of Honour. Even if he died after the war he may be listed under a list of those on active service.

I'd start looking there. I think some of the Scottish University Rolls are online or are available to download from online archives.

kind regards

Adam

Thanks for checking, Anne. I have also looked at Glasgow University, and similarly drew a blank.

I have contacted the Nicolson Institute with a request for further info on this chap - if they have any.

Edinburgh University ROH shows a survivor James Parker Anderson MA 1908, 4th Seaforth Highlanders, 2Lt but no other info.

It could well be that this helps to show that the two in the first post are one and the same, but a bit to go yet I fear.
