Yes but only for the Great War. For the Second World War it is names only. It is strange that they didn't even give the local address to follow the precedence of the First World War names.

Just received the following from a correspondant (tried to encourage him to post in the future):
"Just done some research on the VAD, Maggie Durno, unfortunately she does not appear on CWGC or SNWM. However there are six Durnos' listed and two of them appear to be her brothers or at least related.
1. Pte. Leslie Durno - Seaforths - Son of Barbara J. & late Alexander Durno, Grant Lodge, Kenway - on SNWM
2. Pte J.A.L. Durno - Gordons - Son of Alexander & Barbara Durno, Kenway - Not on SNWM
So a sad period for the Durno family" |

These are, without doubt Maggie's brothers.
In the 1901 Census all are at Lechangie, Kemnay where their father is farming.
James A L Durno, age 6 born Kemnay
Margaret I K Durno, age 4 born Kemnay
Leslie N M Durno, age 1 born Kemnay.
It looks as if the father died and the widow and family moved to Grant Lodge in the neighbouring parish of Monymusk during the war. There is reference to both addresses on the CWGC listings.
I am unsure if VAD nurses were included by CWGC if not died due to enemy action. I am having checks at CWGC made and will advise result.
It may be that this was the entire family of Alexander and Barbara Durno.
Addendum, re CWGC
" VADs were one of the Recognised Civilian Organisations.
As such, they only qualify for CWGC commemoration and war grave status if they died both on duty AND of a war cause.
The majority of VAD deaths would not meet both these requirements although many were included on local war memorials.
Serving overseas at death qualified as 'on duty'. A VAD dying in the UK would have difficulty in qualifying under the 'war cause' half of the required qualification. A 'war cause' could be enemy action or a disease caught through nursing etc but not a road accident in the UK or dying at home of flu. "
Hope this clears things up.
Her death was recorded at Woolwich, London. _________________ Jim

Regarding Maggie Durno.
Way back in my boyhood days I lived in Woolwich, London and the only established major Military Hospital then was the Royal Herbert Hospital, Shooter's Hill Road. It was certainly there prior to WWI, I have not been able to identify any other military hospitals in the area so I must assume that young Maggie served at the Royal Herbert.
Unfortunately the hospital disappeared sometime in the 1960's

An update on Margaret Durno. The British Red Cross do not have a record of her being a registered member of their society but she was a paid employee of the Joint War Committee of the BRC & O of St. John as a Laundress at the Brook War Hospital, just down the road from the Royal Herbert Hospital that I suggested earlier. I was unaware that this hospital was taken over as a War Hospital. However like the Royal Herbert it no longer exists and is now a residential area.
Margaret was employed as a member of the ‘Norfolk Reserve’ from 19th July 1918 until her death, age 21, on 14th September at the Brook War Hospital. The cause of death, (1) Influenza, (2) Broncho pneumonia Toxaemia. At the moment I have no indication as to where she is buried but would probably be either Plumstead or Woolwich Cemetery, SE. London unless her body was taken, by family request to Scotland.
If anybody is aware of Margaret being buried in Scotland I would appreciate details and, if possible, a photograph of her grave, will save an unnecessary journey up to London.
