A friend of mine Capt Ronnie Leask MBE from Edinburgh has informed me that the Scottish Mountaineering Club Great War memorial tablet was in their club rooms in Edinburgh and listed on the casualties were :

Lt Col Harry Walker CMG, 4 Bn Black Watch

Capt Charles A . Air, 4th Bn Black Watch both in 1915

Capt Thomas H B Rorie , 4th Bn Black Watch in 1916

Lt Charles Deards , RFC in 1918

and others

I can not seem to see there is a war memorial listed but maybe Adam and the Edinburgh residents may be able to update this index with it if it is still in existance. I will contact Ronnie to see where this memorial is and how it can be viewed

best wishes

Pat

Having a look at the internet it looks like the Edinburgh club room and library which were on the High Street moved to Glasgow in the early 1990s and that the books from the library have since been gifted to Strathclyde Univertsity. It may be this search will be in vain. It's good to know some of the names have been recorded. There may be more information in local papers.

Regards

Adam

Just received a reply from the Scottish Mountaineering Club and Robin says " The Memorial is in the Club's Raeburn Hut near Dalwhinnie . Contact details for the custodian are on the Club website .

Excellent news and thanks to Robin from the SMC.

Robin has the names and an image of the Memorial so I will try to persuade him to join this website to update our index .

Best wishes
