"Mr William Cumming, of the Great North of Scotland Railway, residing at King Street, New Elgin, has received official intimation from the Admiralty that his son, Alexander Guthrie Cumming, signalman on board H.M.S. Nelson was killed on March 4 during the bombardment of the Dardanelle forts. Signalman Cumming was only 18 years of age, and joined the Navy two years before the outbreak of the war."
