The memorial in Kings Worthy, Hampshire (yes I know it's in England Laughing ) was dedicated to a single individual - Bryce Stewart of the Seaforth Highlanders. A list of other men from the parish who also died is around the side and it does make me feel a little uneasy to see that.
No doubt the memorial was paid for entirely by the officers family and this was the way they thought they should commemorate their son but I can't help thinking that, having shared their deprivations, he would have wanted his fallen comrades to have been given equal status. But perhaps that is just me trying to apply today's thoughts on equality to events of 85 years ago. What does anyone else think?
There is a similar memorial in Itchen Abbas in Hampshire. Anyone seen anything similar north of the border?
Incidentally, I have quite a selection of memorials south of the border and a good proportion of these have the odd soldier from Scottish Regiments so if anyone is researching by Regiment, you could always ask on the offchance.
Here is the Kings Worthy memorial in question - you should be able to read it if you squint a bit.

The Gairloch memorial is slightly similar in that it was erected by the parents of Roderick Mackenzie in his memory "and the men of Gairloch who gave their lives"
