The Liddesdale War Memorial
O/S NY 483 875

The Liddesdale memorial situated in Douglas Square in the village of Newcastleton, was unveiled by the Duke of Buccleuch on Saturday, 6th November, 1920.

Constructed on a granite base surmounted by a figure of a soldier in the uniform of the K.O.S.B., the 16 foot high memorial lists the names of 58 men of the valley who perished.
It cost £800 to construct with nearly half the money coming from public subscription, the deficit being made up from the Liddesdale Soldier’s Comforts Fund.
