I received this request from Stirling Council Library services, Has anyone any information on this topic? Any information would be very much appreciated.

(We have received a request from a national organisation which is trying to record all the war memorial playing fields which were created in memory of our war dead. Apparently some playing fields were originally established as part of a community's remembrance, but over the years the ir original purpose has been forgotten.
It would help us if you are aware of any such playing fields. It would also be useful to ask your local historians and readers with long memories if they know of any war memorial playing fields in your areas).

Willie Stevenson.

Blair Atholl has a memorial playing field dedicated after the Second World War:

This is difficult one because do public parks which contain playing fields count in this? Off the top of my head I can think of only one playing field memorial:

Royal High School, Edinburgh

The playing fields are now a supermarket car park but the memorial gates still exist.

And these are parks where children can play

East Linton, East Lothian

Maybole, South Ayrshire

Loanhead

Thornton, Fife

Thanks lads, I will send the info onto the library service. The only national orginisation I can think of who would be interested in the information would be the UKNIWM, and I know they are aware of this projest. If I hear anymore I will be in touch.

Willie.

UKNIWM are certainly having a big push at the minute with the aim of having all memorials online by 2014 I think.
