Mark
Faichney will qualify for CWGC status provided this can be proved from his service record or DC, assuming he is missing from the CWGC Roll. The cause of his death is not relevant. Will PM you on this. _________________ Jim

Great news about his commemoration.
I'm pretty sure the 2/10th Royal Scots arrived back in the UK after service in North Russia around this time. It would be interesting to know if Private Faichney had just retuned from Russia when he drowned?
Regards

THE SCOTSMAN: 28.06.1919
FATAL BOATING ACCIDENT AT DUNOON
A boating accident occurred in the West Bay, Dunoon, yesterday, by which a young soldier, Ernest Faichney, 19 Kerr Street, New City Road, Glasgow, lost his life. He had gone to Dunoon for the day, and, with an elderly man as a companion, went out in a rowing boat. The boat was seen to capsize by the people from whom it was hired, and who sent out for help. The elderly man was picked up little the worse of the immersion, but no trace of the young soldier's body was seen. |
