Good morning,

I am currently trying to find details for all 14 names on the Church Memorial in Kilmuir Church, Easter Ross.

So far I have been pretty lucky but two names are proving to be a little more difficult and I have tried the CWGC and the Archives for MIC's, but these 2 men are still not to be found:

Sgt William Wass - Seaforth Highlanders
Pte James Forbes - Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders

Perhaps I am not looking properly Embarassed , so any help or advise would be very much appreciated.

Thanks Smile

I've not heard of Wass as a surname before but I've come across quite a few called Vass. Is this your man?

VASS, WILLIAM

Unit Text: 1st/4th Bn.
Age: 19
Date of Death: 25/03/1917
Service No: 200045
Additional information: Son of James and Elspet Vass, of 6, Dalmore Cottages, Alness, Ross-shire.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: I. J. 1.
Cemetery: AUBIGNY COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION

Regards

Adam

I can't find a Pte James Forbes in the Argylls but this chap might be worth investigating:

FORBES, James
Initials: J
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Private
Regiment/Service: Seaforth Highlanders
Unit Text: 1st/4th Bn.
Age: 25
Date of Death: 04/11/1916
Service No: 1376
Additional information: Son of Hugh and Jemima Forbes, of Ankerville Farm, Nigg, Ross-shire.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: IV. A. 12.
Cemetery: WARLINCOURT HALTE BRITISH CEMETERY, SAULTY

FORBES, James, b. Bonar-Bridge, Sutherlandshire, e. Tain, Ross-Shire, 1376, PRIVATE, Died of wounds, France & Flanders, 04/11/16, Seaforth Highlanders (Ross-shire Buffs, the Duke of Albany's), 4th Battalion.

Ankerville isn't that far from Kilmuir Easter Church.

Cheers

Adam

Adam,

That could well be my man as the area would fit, perhaps it is spelt wrongly on the Memorial plaque.

There is actually a Memorial of some description in the grounds of the Dalmore Distillery, I should go and take a look at that and see if he appears on there. Dalmore Cottages are opposite and within the area of the distillery.

Thank you very much for your help. Very Happy
