Another one I'm having trouble locating.

Listed on the Bank of Scotland memorial is a Duncan Mackintosh. Listed as a W Op.

I've had it confirmed he worked at the Grantown-on-Spey branch.

The Grantown-on=Spey memorial has a Royal Navy entry for a D McIntosh. Listed as a Wireless Operator.

Sounds easy, but I can't find him on the CWGC. I've tried D McIntosh. D Macintosh, and D Mackintosh. I think I also tried D Mckintosh.

Any other wildcard searches I should try?

He does not seem to be on CWGC under Royal Navy. Do you have details of his death, etc?

He is listed as Aviemore & Rothiemurcus

The Bank archives had a look in the staff records and the only additional information they could provide was "Died November 1918".

The information they've given from staff records has been known to be a little out before.

I'm visiting the archives this week so I might be able to find some more information from admin papers regarding the memorial.

Duncan Mackintosh died 4th Nov 1918 of Malaria off Lagos. He was a member of the Mercantile Marine and so does not qualify for CWGC war death status.

Can you email any information you have, such as references for this? I want to update my Roll for the Bank of Scotland.

Duncan is also on the Saltcoats War Memorial. There is a newspaper cutting, which I need to get a clearer copy of, which says Duncan was a teller at the Stevenston Branch of the Bank of Scotland

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald 10 January 1918
"DEATHS
ON SERVICE
MACKINTOSH
- Died at sea of malaria, following influenza, Duncan, beloved only son of the late Mr MacKintosh , sheep-manager, Pityoulish, Aviemore and Mrs MacKintosh, Druieside, Aviemore, late teller Bank of Scotland, Stevenston. Interred, Ikoys Cemetery, Lagos"

Deaths at Sea, 1781 - 1968 Transcription states that Duncan was born in Inverness in 1896 and died on 4 November 1918 age 22 at sea. The record confirms the age, date of death and shows the place of death as "6 miles off Lagos". Duncan was a wireless operator and last address was in Aviemore.
