I know of two memorials which were erected on prominent sites overlooking fishing villages so they could serve an alternative purpose as a reference point for fishermen approaching the harbour. I'm sure there are others though and would appreciate it if you could help me jog my memory.
The ones I remember are:
Kildonan at Helmsdale
Macduff
Thanks

There will be a fair number of memorials round the coast positioned so that they can be seen from the sea.
Findochty, Dunottar and Rosehearty ( Parish of Pitsligo ) are another three. The Iolaire memorial could also be used as a reference for navigation. _________________ Jim
