Just noticed that Walter Knox, L-Cpl., Black Watch, is commemorated here. He was born at Stanley, worked as a gardner at Ballathie House and is commemorated on the Kinclaven & Caputh war memorials in Perthshire. I have no idea what his connection is here!

The article gives an estimate of £24,000 but this is not necessarily the final cost. So a fair amount if in that region none the less!

The following soldier is named on this memorial.

ANDISON, James Stewart Private 6902 1/4th Bn King's Own Scottish Borderers
Born: Galashiels, Selkirk Resided: Belfast Enlisted: Galashiels, Selkirk.
Age: 24 Date of Death: 12/07/1915 Cause: Killed in action.
Family Notes: Eldest son of Thomas Balmer Andison and Jane Andison, of 230, Cliftonville Rd., Belfast.
Religion: Presbyterian. Trade/profession: Clerk (Antrim Iron Ore Co. Ltd.).

Private James Stewart (Sic), 4th Kings Own Scottish Borderers, (Territorial), was killed in action at the Dardanelles on 12th Inst. He was the eldest son of Mrs Anderson (sic), Clifton Crescent, Belfast, and was a clerk in the service of the Antrim Iron Ore, Co. Ltd.

Andison- Killed in action at the Dardanelles on 12th July, James Stewart, 1/4th K.O.S.B. (Territorial Force), eldest son of T. Balmer and Mrs. Andison, Clifton Crescent. Deeply regretted. The Belfast Evening Telegraph, 30 July 1915.

Other notes: Private Andison’s Medal Index card shows him as entering the Gallipoli Theatre of Operations on 6/6/1915.
Census Notes: The 1911 Census shows Private Andison’s parents, Thomas (Clerk in Linen Warehouse, aged 4Cool and Jane (aged 4Cool residing at, No. 7, Clifton Crescent, North Belfast, Co Antrim; also present were their children, Ellen (aged 25), Janet (aged 23), Mary Jane (aged 21), Thomas (aged 17), and Harry (aged 14); his parents stated that during their marriage they had seven children, six of whom were alive at the time of the Census. The Andison family was shown on the 1`901 Census (residing at, Pollbwee, Navan, Co. Meath) as follows; Thomas Balmer (Tweed Designer, aged 3Cool and Jane (aged 3Cool and their children, Janet Irvine (aged 16), Mary Jane (aged 14), James Stewart (aged 9), Thomas Balmer (aged 6) and Harry (aged 4).
Special Notes: Private Andison is listed on the IWM records as “killed in action, Dardanelles, July 12, 1915.”
Grave/Memorial: D. 113. Lancashire Landing Cemetery.
Other memorials: Private Andison is named in the Scottish Roll of Honour in the Scottish National War Memorial, Edinburgh Castle, Edinburgh; he is also named on the Galashiels War Memorial (located outside the Galashiels Council Offices).
