|
|
The following transcript was taken from the People's Journal dated 9th August, 1918.
This particular casualty does not appear on the Kilmadock War Memorial but added, apparently, to Lady Muir's War Shrine. Any locals have any throughts re. this ?
YOUNG DEANSTON OFFICER KILLED
After a long period of foreign service, James Stewart, Camerons, Deanston, applied for a commission, and being an efficient soldier, and well educated, he quickly attained it. His many friends will regret to hear of his death in France from wounds. The following notice of his death is published:- “Cameron Highlanders – Mr James Stewart died of wounds. Second Lieutenant James Stewart was the youngest son of the late Mr John Stewart, Deanston, Perthshire. His wife resides at 37 James Street, Edinburgh”. His name will be added to the list of Deanston’s fallen heroes inscribed on the war shrine erected by Lady Muir of Deanston, making the twenty-eighth name on the tablet. |

I was along at Gargunnock Churchyard during the summer (one day that just happened not to be raining) and couldn't find the one single CWGC grave that's there - it was a bit of a flying visit though.
I'll see if I can find a contact number and try to arrange a visit.
