Lochgoilhead - Argyll & Bute, Cowal District
The Lochgoilhead war memorial is a very simple Creetown granite celtic cross with wheel-head standing on a low elegant pedestal. The commemoration and names of the dead are listed on the face of the pedestal in lead lettering.
The memorial was erected by Glasgow monumental sculptors Messrs. Scott Rae, the daybook entry reads:
'Order No. 5209,Lochgoilhead, Creetown Cross, Erected June 1920, Daybook 160'.

Lieutenant David Methven was awarded the George Medal for bomb disposal work in 1940 and 1941. He later participated in Operation Freshman, the planned destruction of a heavy-water plant at Rjukan in Norway using Airborne Royal Engineers landing in gliders to attack the plant.
