Roll of Honour for Skye and Lochalsh by Graham Ross held at Portree Library (loose leaf) & at Inverness library. compiled from Oban Times newspapers .

SKEABOST MEMORIAL HALL:

The Memorial Hall is the only one of its kind in Skye and Lochalsh and is dedicated to the Men from the SKEABOST DISTRICT , who fell in the SECOND WORLD WAR and PALESTINE . It was a gift, supplemented by local collections , from Duncan MacLeod of SKEABOST to the People of the Area. It was felt that a Community Hall would be more appropriate than any other form of Memorial. Within the Hall there is a Plaque to the 15 Men who laid down their lives during this time. Today it is still used for the benefit of the people of Skeabost and District .

The Hall is situated off the main Portree to Dunvegan road , the A850 at the Tote Road end .

This Skeabost Memorial Hall , Skeabost or Sgeabost is located just off the A850 .

The UKNIWM records this Memorial on their index as being Ref No
57248

Grid Ref should also be NG 420. 484. GB Grid

There is a large cemetery across from this WW2 Memorial Hall that has war grave headstones including Home Guard soldier N Finlayson listed on this Memorial . Near to this Hall is an old graveyard ( Skeabost (St Columba) Old Churchyard , Snizort that has one Great War CWGC headstone re Gunner AA MacLeod, RGA , death 7 Feb 1919 ).

With the help of Graham Ross I found out that there was a war memorial inside this 1952 built hall and managed to find a keyholder to give me access at a time it was not in use .

Thank you again John ( Burnett ) for your kindness and time in adding my photos to this section of the war mems website .
