This is a newly constructed memorial - within the last 20 years. It lies in the village of Garrabost which is in Point - the penninsula of land east of Stornoway. Garrabost faces Back across a couple of miles of water called Loch 'a' Tuath.

Always liked the look of a dry-stane dyke. And the paving stones representative of the saltire as well. Can I see lighting? Would be good to see how it looks when illuminated at night.

From the War Memorials Trust.................................

War Memorials Trust contributed £250 to a new memorial erected at Point on the Isle of Lewis in 2003 (WM1111). The Trust does not have photographs of the entire memorial suitable for the Showcase. If anyone has high res photos that they would allow to be published on the WMT website, please PM me for my email address.

A new war memorial and garden of remembrance was created by the residents of Point on the Isle of Lewis in 2004. Four memorial plaques are one side of the walled paved garden of remembrance. It commemorates those who fell in the two World Wars.

War Memorials Trust gave £250.00 towards the appeal to raise around £70,000.

The stonework of the memorial garden walls is constructed from reclaimed stone of derelict buildings that were originally the homes of some of those recorded on the memorial plaques. This was donated by descendents.

Please note that WMT no longer makes grants towards new memorials.

Thanks for that image of Kenneth Campbell's gravestone - taken at Etaples? I'm only too aware of all the spelling errors in the CWGC files of Hebridean men; as and when I'm able I provide feedback to the Commission. Do you mind appending this to the Overseas Burials section in the War Graves project?
