I am sure I have seen this on a memorial recently but cannot find it.........
"For gold the merchant ploughs the main.
The farmer ploughs the manor;
But glory is the sodgers prize,
The sodgers wealth his honour;
The brave poor sodger ne'er despise,
Nor count him as a stranger;
Remember he's his country's stay,
In days and hour of danger"
It's the last verse of Robert Burns song 'The Soldier's Return'. Anyone recall where it might be?

Paul
Halkirk in Caithness has the first verse. Is that what you are thinking of?
Cheers

Yes, that's the one. I knew I had read the last verse somewhere and thought it was on the thread but now I see it was posted in the thread. Thanks
