It seems a little unusual that there is no mention on or around this memorial of those lost in the Second World War from this village. I had a look around the environs of the church (a couple of days ago) and even briefly inside and could see nothing in acknowledgment of the fallen of WW2. Can anyone shed any light on this? Was the village exceptionally lucky that there were no WW2 casualties? |

Thank you for that Anne. I had missed his service record
I've amended my notes above to include a bit more detail (eg served with 1st and 2nd Battalions)
Just to complete things - his brother, Robert, also died:

Robert arrived in Egypt on Christmas Day 1915. He died of dysentery in the 66th Casualty Clearing Station in Palestine.

Died on Active Service on 13 May 1918 and buried in Jerusalem War Cemetery, Israel.
Also listed on the Maxwelltown/Troqueer War Memorial. _________________ Ken |
