In the May edition of the Aberdeen & NE FHS magazine there is a article by a George Nicol which ends:-
"An article in Aberdeen Press & Journal reported that, in 2003, stained glass windows, which had been removed from Premnay Church on its conversion to a private house, were restored and installed in the village hall. One of the windows commemorated the three sons of John and Margaret Mackintosh who died in the First World War - but there is no mention of a window to the memory of their son Hugh"

Can anyone add to this?

Which page in the May edition is it on? I saw it piece on this recently but cannot find it now.
I am aware that windows were removed to the hall at Premnay, from memory they were in memory of sons of a minister there. They are not recorded on the Premnay WW1 memorial panel.

Have you more details of the Mackintosh family?

Jim,
the article is headed Ebenezer Yeats Smith and the paragraph I quoted is the last one in the article on page 41.

I do not know anymore about the Mackintosh family.

Along with journal I received a membership list, so will try and contact the author for more information.

Thanks, I have it now, was looking for a related heading. From the whole article the surname is Stewart.
There are three Stewarts from the Manse on Premnay War Memorial. It is they who are commemorated on the stanied glass window, now in the hall. Hugh was not a casualty of the Great War, he died in 1934.
His brothers were James, John and Francis.

This is reply that I received from author of article.
Do you know if plaque still exists?
Also, do we have a photo of stained glass window?
"I am sorry I cannot help you with the Mackintosh family in Premnay. I only know of them because of the reference to Hugh Stewart in the will of Ebenezer Smith, and the follow up on Hugh which I made to see if I could find out anything more about Ebenezer. It was such a tragedy that the family lost so many sons in the war, but I have no more information on them.

With respect to your project connected with war memorials, the cottage hospital in Insch was erected as a memorial to the fallen of World War 1 and I understand that there is a plaque at the hospital with names. I also seem to recall that there was a granite memorial in the village."

I have posted an image of the memorial panel in the Insch and Disrict War Memorial Hospital on this forum. See Aberdeenshire / Insch & District War Memorial Hospital. I hope to get one in colour shortly, same for Premnay Hall.

There is no granite memorial. He may be thinking of the plaques to the side of the original entrance, also on that post. The Stewarts are named on both. The Parish of Premnay extends into the village of Insch.

The Stewarts were
Cpl. James Fleming Stewart, R.E. KIA in France 28th June 1916 age 22.

Francis William Stewart, Engineer S.S. Norwegian mined of the Irish Coast 15th March 1917, age 25.

John Stewart, Chief Engineer S.S. Hebburn, died Portland U.S.A 5th Dec 1918 age 32.

John is not commemorated by CWGC.
