Is there any on-line information for South African Casualties similar to that available for Australians and Canadians? _________________ Ken |

Thanks Paul
Although in this case it didn't help. I was looking for info. on a Robert Jack listed on the Second Panel of the Dalbeattie War Memorial.
He doesn't seem to be on either the CWGC or SNWM - but I'll keep digging. _________________ Ken |

Now got a bit more information on this man.
He is listed on the Dalbeattie War Memorial as
PTE. ROBERT JACK, SOUTH AFRICANS
He has an entry in the Stewartry Roll of Honour
Robert Jack, Dispatch Rider, Served in German East Africa with De Venter. Died at Ladysmith
Lt.Gen. Sir Jacob van Deventer took over command of the East African Campaign from General Smutts.
He was born in Dalbeattie in 1884. Son of William and Mary (Somers) Jack
The family gravestone shows that he died on 27 October 1918 at Ladysmith, Natal. His wife Ivy Martin died 3 days earlier.
Can't find his regiment but as a "dispatch rider" he might have served with 1st or 2nd SA Mounted Brigade.
Would he have had a MIC, service record, etc in London? _________________ Ken |
