I haven't been able to find out much about Thomas Beattie. He seems to have had some sort of connection to Sir Robert Lorimer.
We do know he was the sculptor responsible for the soldier on Carnoustie's War Memorial.
It looks like the soldier has a moustache and perhaps it is this but he looks older than most of the servicemen statues found on war memorials.
Note the detail on the sleeve, overseas service chevrons. It's hard to make out but I don't know if it's a Black Watch badge on his Tam o'Shanter.
Regards

Adam,
Is there any chance that this Thomas Beattie was the father of William Beattie of the Hawick 1514 "Horse" fame?
Thomas was responsible for some of the work on the Usher Hall. _________________ There must be a place under the sun where hearts of olden glory grow young ..... |
