I think this is a somewhat incomplete/unfinished RoH. The names which have been 'boxed' were those who died;

Name: HUTCHEON, JAMES
Initials: J
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Sapper
Regiment: Royal Engineers
Age: 26
Date of Death: 11/01/1944
Service No: 1881187
Additional information: Fosterson of Annie Irvine, of Rattray, Perthshire.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: 3. B. 8.
Cemetery: TRIPOLI (VICTORIA) NAVAL CEMETERY

Name: LINDSAY, LESLIE
Initials: L
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Lance Corporal
Regiment: Pioneer Corps
Unit Text: 59 Coy.
Age: 35
Date of Death: 14/06/1945
Service No: 13085803
Additional information: Son of Mrs. J. Lindsay, of New Rattray, Blairgowrie, Perthshire.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Row 1, grave 2.
Cemetery: TURNHOUT COMMUNAL CEMETERY

Name: CLARKIN, JOHN PRINGLE
Initials: J P
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Ordinary Seaman
Regiment: Royal Navy
Unit Text: H.M.S. Foliot
Age: 20
Date of Death: 02/08/1944
Service No: P/JX 382938
Additional information: Son of John and Margaret Clarkin, of Blairgowrie, Perthshire.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Sec. C. Cons. Grave 18193.
Cemetery: PLYMOUTH (WESTON MILL) CEMETERY

There is another who was closely connected with the church who does not appear on the RoH - although his wifes names does (Mary Malone)

Name: MALONE, THOMAS
Initials: T
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Private
Regiment: Pioneer Corps
Date of Death: 24/07/1943
Service No: 2761415
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Sec. B. Grave 658.
Cemetery: BLAIRGOWRIE CEMETERY

All these men appear on the Blairgowrie & Rattray War Memorial. I have photographs of HUTCHEON, CLARKIN & MALONE.
I obtained a picture of a man I 'believe' to be Les Lindsay. However the only man who could have id'd him, a Mr Gray, died recently well into his nineties - and with whom Les Lindsay had served his time as a painter.

Despite its connection with the labour Corps, and I also know men connected with the church died during WW1, there appears to be no Great War Memorial in the church!

Interesting. This roll of honour seems to support my conclusion that these were originally working documents showing those who 'are' serving, with names being added as they joined and flagged when they died. I think most were eventually re-written on a decent framed roll by someone with a good hand, so this could be one of the few that survived in an original condition.

Did you look at the Stained Glass Window.

This I believe is a memorial to the Women's Land Army from WW1.

Their HQ was at Blairgowrie and Rattray.

Re ROH,

Thomas Malone was my grandfather and I knew he was mentioned. I note there is also a Mary Malone mentioned. This could have been my mother as she was in the Air Force during the latter years of the war.

I paid a visit to the Riverside Methodist Church today.

The stained glass Memorial window to the Labor Corp is something to be seen.

The treasurer was telling me that the insurance for the window runs into hundreds of pounds. She also said that the church was struggling to make ends meet.

She told me that the Ordinance Corp used to pay the insurance up to about 4 years ago then it just stopped. This would probably coincide with the reshape of HM Forces.

The church had a handout about the history of the window. They sell them for 20p to raise funds to keep the window.

I promised to make another one for them and raise the price.

Is there any organisation they could approach to get a grant for the insurance. The quoted cost to replace the window in 2004 was £135,000.

At present, the responsibility is bourn by the members and friends of the church.

I do have other photo's that I shall put up when I get them done.

I think the Royal Logistics Corps association might be worth a try for funds - at least they might have an idea.

**Mod Edit Adam**

I have moved the rest of Murray's photographs from this post of the magnificent Labour Corps memorial to the thread already started in the Regimental and Unit Section.
