The Inverurie & District War Memorial is the focal point of The Market Square in Inverurie town centre.
I believe the plinth is Rubislaw and the figure in Kemnay granite.
Supplied by Arthur Taylor, Aberdeen.

Great set of photo's of a very nicely made memorial. Do you know if the names are recorded on it and if so was there a Pte Alexander Forbes of the 4th Gordons?
Many thanks,
Stewart

Stewart

There are names recorded on the other faces of the memorial, will check and get photos next time I am in Inverurie.
I found three Alexr Forbes listed on SNWM but none appear to be linked to Inverurie. What is your man's service number?

Hello,
Thank you for the quick reply. The fellow I have been trying to research is 4719 {later 201767} Pte Alexander Forbes. He was born and enlisted in Aberdeen. Served with the 4th Battalion Gordon Highlanders and was killed in action on the 25th March 1918. The conection with Inverurie is that his medals were sent to a Mrs Helen Wilson, Kirkshill, Daviot, Inverurie, Aberdeenshire.
Thats all I have been able to find out about him. As I don't know his age, the Scottishpeople Website gave me too many possibles.
There is no hurry for the information, just when ever you are passing.
Regards,
Stewart

Hello,
I've just been reading the Aberdeenshire list and I see there is also a memorial in Daviot, so it is more likely he would be commemorated on that one, if any.
Thanks once again,
Stewart

I have just added the Daviot War Memorial. An Alex Forbes in the Gordons is named thereon.
