This one bothered me for a while - a memorial to the 'Glenners'. There HAD to be one but I could never find any mention of it and no amount of scouting around could locate it.
I then spoke with a with an old gentleman who had, for many years, ran a joinery business in the area and was directed to it.
As you can see it is another example of neglect. Steps leading to it are cut into a steep hillside and the memorial sits atop overlooking Kirkmichael and the surrounding area. It must have been a prominent feature at one time but trees now hide it. I have passed that way so many times and have never even noticed the steps. I think this one could be on private ground too. I must try and get something done about it, even a community effort - I won't go into it but that may not be easy. |

Great stuff,
Adam, any more on the 'Sniper Sandy' tag? I take it he was a good shot with the rifle.

Mark
Yes, I got this from the local Golpsie paper, The Northern Times. It had a big write up about the casualties from the attack on Beaumont Hamel. A lot of Sutherland men lost their lives on 13th / 14t Nov. 1916. I'll try and find out what else it said about him.
Regards
Adam |
