BLAIRGOWRIE ADVERTISER: 25.10.1919

STRALOCH

WAR MEMORIAL

A neat Iona cross of Aberdeen granite, erected in the churchyard at Straloch as a memorial to the nine district men who fell in the war, was dedicated by the Rev. J. C. Kirk. The names of the dead heroes were read while the congregation stood and the organist, Mrs P. Stewart, afterwards played the “Dead March in Saul”. Mr J. S. M. Pender Small of Dirnanean performed the unveiling ceremony. Piper Norman M’Millan played a lament, and the “Last Post” was sounded by Drummer-Corporal W. Robertson, Pitlochry. Mr Tom Michie presided. The names inscribed on the memorial are:- Pte. Peter Anderson, M.M.; Pte. John Farquharson, Pte. James Low, Pte. Chas. M’Intyre, Sergt. Colin M’Kechnie, Pte. Lachlan M’Kechnie, Pte. John MacNicoll, Pte. William Smith, Corpl. Jas. Steele. A handsome * Roll of Honour, with 47 names of service men, has been hung in the vestibule of the church, adorned with the badges of the various regiments and the Royal Coat of Arms, and bearing the motto - “Gloria virtutis umbra”.

* The Roll of Honour alluded to now hangs in Kirmichael Church, and is posted here;
