Now that we have been running for nearly two years there is a little of bit of forum administration to be done.

For example there are some threads out there where we need photographs. We may not have photographs of the name panels or even of the memorial itself. We may need up to date photographs as well.

Other threads might not have a location, Ordnance Survey reference or a UKNIWM entry.

We will also start adding unveiling details so if they haven’t been posted we’ll list them here.

There will probably be other things needing some attention which I haven’t thought of but will be listed here too.

We will start making up a list here covering all this area’s memorials, civic, church, regimental etc. If we come across something that will need actioned the Mods. can add it to this list. If you see something that needs updated please post in this thread and we can update the list.

Cheers

There are several churches in Dalkeith but I think this is the one next to the park which conatins the civic memorial

The Scotsman - Monday, 11th April 1921, page 5

Dalkeith Parish Church

In the Dalkeith Parish Church yesterday Sir John D. Don Wauchope, Bart., unveiled a two-light window, which has been erected as a memorial to those of the congregation who fell in the war. The subject of the stained glass is the work of Mr James Ballantyne , F.S.A.Scot. In the tracery on a scroll is inscribed the text, "Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life or by death" The colour scheme is of deep tones, relieved by glass of light translucent tints. The scroll at the foot of the window bears the inscription "Erected by the congregation to the glory of God and in loving remembrance" followed by the names of 40 who laid down their lives. The Rev. W. A. Dunnett , B.D., O.B.E., conducted the service , at the close of which the Last Post was sounded by bugle.

Kirknewton Church of Scotland does not have any memorial for WW1 and WW2. However there is a memorial on the wall to Rev Bryce's son who died in 1832. He was an officer but can't remember the regiment. Any interest in this?

Margaret

Many thanks for the update. We usually post the other type of memorial on the Scottish War Graves Project.

Kind regards

Adam
