WATT, J.A. , 36 years , Engineman, MERCANTILE MARINE, HM DRIFTER " Premier" died 15 January 1918 , husband of Anna Bella Watt, 75 Denside, Gardenstown, Banff . Grave Gamrie New Parish Churchyard ( A 1 . 61 )

The headstone in this churchyard covers details of the sinking by German U Boat off Skye and James Alexander WATT , Engineman, of the SS Premier (as the headstone calls the boat ) died of his injuries at the Station Hotel in Mallaig on 15 January 1918.

The Oban Times , under the heading of " Another U boat Crime : reports the attack on the Premier , a small unarmed drifter by the German U Boat on 7 January 1918 off Loch Eynort ( isle of Skye ) and one killed and one badly wounded .

The book " Off Scotland " by Ian Whittaker - covers wrecks in Scotland and this covers the wreck of the Premier : Captain Ritchie ( BF696) sunk by gunfire on 7 January 1918 etc

John West was my Great Uncle. I have been to his grave in Blangy-Tronville, France.

Are you related to him and do you have any more information on him?
