Unveiled by Mrs WH Cox of Snaigow - January 8th 1921.

This Memorial has been almost forgotten but for a few of the aged parishioners (one of whom had great pleasure taking me to it).

This Cairn stands on a raised piece of ground north of the village hall (approx. 1 mile east of Clunie Loch/Church). It is a prominent site and when unveiled would be visible to much of the parish but trees have grown all around and hidden it from view. This memorial could well be on private ground.

Apparently, and until very recently, a native of the parish, who had moved away, still made pilgrimage to the cairn every year to lay a wreath.

My photo of the plaque is poor but I will transcribe the names soon.

Sad how the cairn appears to have been forgotten by all but those older generation.

Hi Derek,

It is sad, there are a few in my area that really require attention, I must try and do something about it.
I know how hard it is, though, going on a one man crusade and it certainly takes the puff out of you.
Clunie is a dear place to me. My paternal grandmother' mother's family (MacKenzie) lived at Craigie hamlet for hundreds of years and had the Smithy and Post Office there.
Craigie overlooks Clunie Loch, at the edge of which is a mound containing the remains of Kenneth MacAlpine's (first King of Scots) Hunting Lodge. In 845 MacAlpine repelled the Danish invasion closeby.
On the Island is the remains of the castle (originally for the Bishops of Dunkeld) where the Admirable Crichton, the 'most intelligent and enlightened man in all Europe' was brought up.
