Cranstoun Parish & Pathhead War Memorial
Location: Junction of A68 and A6093 Haddington Road
OS Ref: NT 381 661
The only way to get a photo of this memorial from the busy A68 without dodging vehicles is to take it first thing in the morning so apologies for the glare in the background.

If ever a memorial needed re-situated then this is it.
For those who don't know it, the memorial sits just feet from the busy A68.
I certainly prefer my memorials in quiet locations. _________________ There must be a place under the sun where hearts of olden glory grow young ..... |

Why this memorial hasn't been moved before I don't know. There is no parking nearby and it sits right next to one of the busiest 'A' roads in Scotland.
A more sensible place would be in Pathhead or a local cemetery.
I take it the locals wished it to remain there. It is in a very public place and so still serves the purpose of reminding those passing of the sacrifice of the local community.
It's weathered a bit since last year and will probably need some work done on it relatively soon. Perhaps that would be a good opportunity to move it.
It's not an elaborate memorial and I wouldn't think a good monumental mason would have any problem re-erecting it.

| Hi I am a new member to this site but ever since I was young I have wondered about this name on the memorial. I too have tried to find details without success. As I live near here I have made local enquiries but all I ever found out was that " the minister at the time had the name added". I'd love to find out her story? |
