My record of WMs found:

"Other Islands of Inner Hebrides"

Generally speaking, no photos or names, only recorded the numbers. Visited in 2005/6 and 7.

Coll: visited in 2005. Did not find it

Tiree visited in 2005. One WM found on the roadside from the ferry. I counted 69 names WW1 and 39 WW2. The book “The Land Below the Waves” says it was 65, inc Lt Commander Archibald Lamont, the first man in the Mercantile Marine to receive the DSC. Lt William McLean was awarded then MC and Piper J Sutherland the MM. The bosun of the SS Northumbria, John Paterson, was lost when his ship sank after the end. Doesn’t say how long after. In WW2, 31 soldiers died, 9 in the RAF, 15 merchant navy, 8 of whom were ships captains and one was Capt Iain Kennedy, father of the author, and one from the RN. My count must have missed a panel.

Kerrera visited 2005. Nothing found, church was locked.

Lismore visited 2005 the island WM is on the road at approx 860 430, near the island church, towards the north end. There are 5 names on it from WW1.

Mull. Visited in 2005. Found one on the dead end road to Lochbuie, by the church at the road junction at the head of Loch Spelve. It commemorates Loch Spelve parish and 8 names listed for WW1.

There is one at Creicht, the district around Fionnphort, 15 names WW1, 1 for WW2

Didn’t find any others.

Iona has 11 names for WW1 and 16 for WW2.

Ulva: not sure if there is public access.

Colonsay: the WM is by the ferry terminal. Photo (not digital) available. But there is a book, Colonsay’s Fallen, pub by Colonsay Books, Colonsay PA61 7YR email bookshop@colonsay.org.uk.

Islay: in 2007. There are 3 parishes. Kilchoman’s WM is at grid ref 259601 alongside the coast road to Portnahaven, a mile south of Bruichladdich village. This is on the forum already as is Kildalton and Oa at Port Ellen.

Kilcarrow and Kilmeny: there is one inside Bowmore church (photos taken) dedicated to Kilcarrow. Kilmeny church is on the road to Port Askaig and was being renovated, all covered over with dust sheets in June 07.

Jura: the WM is a plaque inside the island church, which is reproduced in the book “Jura Parish Church, A Brief History”. I will send a copy to be scanned but if it doesn’t, it reads as follows. One date is not too clear so a ? mark indicates it.

To the glory of God and in memory of those who gave their lives in the Great War 1914-19.

Capt James Archibald Lochneil Campbell, Yr of Jura A and S Highlanders 19/3/15
Capt Ronald Walker Francis Campbell 10th Royal Fusiliers 11/8/16

The Oban Times in c1921-24 states 65 names for WW1 and the book may quote from that without actually counting the names. Another four names could easily have been added subsequently once omissions were noted.

I was talking about the Tiree War Memorial of course and SS Northumbria was sunk on 9 January 1919 with several Hebrideans among the casualties.
