The memorial for Borve is located outside the new community centre, currently being built on the southern side of the village of Borve. This is situated on the A857 Stornoway - Port of Ness, 6 miles north of Barvas and 17 miles north of Stornoway.

Please note date of posting - the community centre is due to be completed later in 2008.

The memorial is similar to the one at Cross, 6 miles up the road, although there are only 3 panels.

The plaque on the pedestal in front of the main memorial is poorly legible. The Borve Memorial faces west, and is therefore completely open to the eroding forces of wind and rain.

The text reads:
This memorial was erected in remembrance of those who made the supreme sacrifice in the two World Wars 1914-1918 1939-1945 and the Iolaire Disaster 1.1.1919.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them

Interesting to see a Boer War casualty on a War Memorial like that. That must be the first one I've seen on a memorial that wasn't specifically to the dead of the Boer War.

Please note the titles of the memorials, both here and at Cross Ness, are given as the North Lewis War Memorial (then the village subtitles). Both memorials were erected and opened at much the same time.
