Can someone let me know, either here or by PM, what the cost of two poppy wreathes would be and where I could get them from.
I am negotiating to get wreathes laid at the Union Bank of Scotland memorials at my place of work, and this appears never to have been carried out before. Certainly not in the last ten years or more. This have bee because the building has been shut the last seven years, and before that access to be able to lay the wreathes was not possible due to the working environment.
I enquired today about laying wreathes and was told that they are happy for it to go ahead, but the cost would have to be met by the units within the building. Quite frankly I'm prepared to pay for this myself.
I'd also appreciate knowing what is onvolved with laying a wreath on 11th November. Does it take place before or after the two minutes silence? Is there a reading or anything involved. I don't expect there to be a big service - it might even just be myself laying these.
If someone knowledgable can let me know ASAP that would be great.
Cheers,
David |

To answer to your questions.
I am involved in wreath laying every year as a member of the RBLS. I have personally obtained wreaths in the past from Lady Haig's Poppy Factory, Edinburgh. I put one on a " forgotten " memorial each Armistice Day.
A link to the wreaths section and their contact details are below. Althought they are very helpful it may be a bit late in the day to get a No. 2 wreath or similar.

Wreaths are normally laid following the end of the Silence. It would be apt to conclude the Silence with Binyon's Lines before proceeding to lay your wreaths together, or in turn.
I think that, as is usual, any speech or reading of the Roll of names would be timed to conclude just before 11.00am and the start of the Silence.
Hope this assists. _________________ Jim

Many thanks for your replies. I will be ordering a wreath in the next couple of days.
I'm not sure who will be laying the wreath. I think it might be myself. If it is, I'll be immensely proud to do so.
I'm also pleased to report that a colleague who worked in the building before it closed has reported that it was always practice to lay a wreath on the 11th November. It's nice to know that the Bank of Scotland still remembers the men who served. |

This factory is abut 10 mins walk from my work in case you need something picked up.
I'm glad to say the RBoS always lays wreaths at the bank memorials at 36 St Andrew Square and Gogarburn and we even have a wreath at our modern offices even though we don't have a memorial.
Regards

Gogarburn seems an appropriate location for Remembrance. My late mother, who elisted in 1938, drove ambulances around Edinburgh hospitals and down to the Borders country houses which had been converted into convalescent homes. Gogarburn was used for emergency surgical cases. |
