This is the biggie. If you're talking about Scottish War Memorials, you can't avoid talking about the National War Memorial.
What you won't find on this forum is many photographs taken by me of the Memorial. Photography is not permitted inside the Memorial, and I will always respect that.
However, you can get an idea of how beautiful this building is by visiting The Scottish National War Memorial website
Not only does it have a virtual tour, but you can search for Scottish casualties from the First and Second World Wars, as well as later conflicts. |

David has mentioned the SNWM databases in his post. It's probably also worth adding that if you go into their online databases in most cases it is pretty much the same data as you’d find on the Soldiers Died in The Great War CD-Rom.
A big plus is that it also covers Navy, Air Force, Merchant Navy, Scots in the CEF, NZEF, AIF, etc from 1914-1918, 1939-45 and 1945 – 2003. If you are researching the names on a memorial it is very handy for helping to confirm if a name in the Commonwealth War Graves Commission database is a Scots man or woman. |
