This thread is now solely for discussion of potential memorials not covered by the Project in the Dundee & Angus area.

Here is a list of war memorials in the City of Dundee & Angus. There are bound to be errors and omissions so as before please let me know and I will update this list. Entries in blue are links to memorials in the forum.

Lundie linked. I have been inside the church at Eassie & Nevay - nothing. I have asked some local residents if there is a RoH or monument anywhere, although there is not thought to be any. I do know from entries in the local papers that there were men from Eassie killed!
Have added Eassie & Nevay as - No War Memorial - but this can be altered if something turns up.

BLAIRGOWRIE ADVERTISER: 29.04.1916
EASSIE

Lance-Corpl. W. Clark, Black Watch, son of Mr J. Clark, Ingliston, has died from wounds caused by a burst shell. His death makes the first break in the Parish Church Roll of Honour.

Name: CLARK, WILLIAM
Initials: W
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Lance Corporal
Regiment/Service: Black Watch (Royal Highlanders)
Unit Text: 1st Bn.
Age: 25
Date of Death: 19/04/1916
Service No: 2180
Additional information: Son of James and Mary Clark, of Haughend, Meigle, Perthshire. Born Forfarshire.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: V. B. 26.
Cemetery: LILLERS COMMUNAL CEMETERY

This entry tends to suggest that there was, at one time, a Roll of Honour contained within the church.

Perhaps try asking the Session Clerk of the Church. He would be the preson to know if the Church still had a roll of honour tucked away somewhere.

I have left my 'phone number with the couple that live in the old manse. They are to make enquiries and get back to me one way or other. The will also arrange with the minister access to Newtyle Church at a later date.

Apart from the Spanish Civil War Memorial at Dundee, which is still not accessable, I think that is the parish/civic list for Dundee & Angus complete. Unless of course some, which I am not aware of, come to light.

Top man Mark. I am currently compliling a full list of civic memorials on the forum and knew Angus & Dundee was nearly finished. The Boer War one is unavailable just now though isn't it?

Yes, good news. What's the Boer War one Adam? or did you mean Spanish Civil War. If there is a Boer War Memorial let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Sorry to confuse matters. It was the Spanish Civil War memorial I meant Embarassed

I have now added a thread for it with a link to a TUC site which has details of the memorial. Hopefully we can get some of our own information soon but for now it means the Dundee & Angus Civic list is complete.

Next time you get a second to update this list please add the cross of sacrifice in Sleepyhillock cemetery in Montrose. It's not listed at UKNIWM.

The Arbroath High School memorial is in fact two separate memorials for each war. So there should be two numbers at the UKNIWM but there isn't.

Interestingly there was once an oak case made to add five names of people missed out on the original memorial, inside this was a roll of honour, both the oak case and roll of honour have been lost somehow. I think in the move to the new school in 1985.

I believe the McManus is open again. The Spanish Civil War Memorial 'should' be back in situ, although haven't seen anything in the press.

This list needs updated.
Memorials have been added which are unlisted here, as well as those which are listed needing links to the threads in which they appear.
