Excellent post Mark.
The images of the men bring the futility of the war to the fore, for me
anyway.

Simpson, James, Ldg./Drummer, Howe Batt. R.N.D., Kingower, Burghmuir, died 23rd March, 1916. Not Identified.
I couldn't find him on Jack Cleggs Ancestry database either.
I will contact Jack directly and see if he can shed any light on him.

Here's Jack's reply:

In my opinion, this bloke is:-

Z.X/540 James SIMPSON RNVR, Son of John Simpson, of Atholl Bank, Viewlands Rd., Perth.
Born 9/3/1889 (a lie or error), Served with Howe Battn. A/540 .
Enlisted 25/2/15, discharged from 2nd Reserve Battn. Blandford Under-Age 23/7/15.

As far as I can tell, he did not proceed overseas with Howe Battn. 28/2/15, but it is possible he may have & then been sent home.
The Z.X. RNVR series were all Musicians of one sort or another, so that fits too.

And here's the death registrationI traced which agrees with the info Jack supplied:

Either side of the pulpit are two lovely stained glass windows;
For the men;

And, uniquely, for the suffering and sacrifice of the women;

I have moved the windows into this thread alongside the tablet. They are not separate memorials, all forming part of the WW1 memorial scheme.

PERTHSHIRE ADVERTISER: 28.04.1920

TIBBERMORE PARISH CHURCH

WAR MEMORIAL UNVEILED

A dedicatory service in connection with the above was held in Tibbermore Parish Church on Sunday – the Rev. Duncan Cameron, B.D., of Kilsyth, officiating. Taking as his text the words “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lays down his life for his friends” (St. John 15th and 13th) the rev. gentleman delivered an eloquent and touching address, which was listened to with rapt attention by the large congregation, the church being crowded.

The memorial consists of a mural tablet and two stained-glass windows. The tablet, which is placed inside the building, on the south wall, between the east gallery and the main east window, was designed and erected by D. Beveridge and Son, Perth Marble Works, York Place. It is of Sicilian marble; there are three panels, set on a moulded base – the side panels being surmounted by a neat moulding and ornamental top. The centre panel is carried higher up, with a richly mounted frieze and cap on top. On it is the inscription:-

“In Loving Memory of those who, having gone forth from this Parish, died in the service of their King and country”.
