The inscription on the ceiling reads;
1914-18
NON NOBIS DOMINE
NON NOBIS SED NOMINI
TUO DA GLORIAM
1939-45
* Rough translation - NOT TO US, O LORD BUT TO YOUR NAME GIVE GLORY
From St. John's website;
THE CHANCEL CEILING
This ceiling was adorned in 1947 as a peace thanksgiving and war memorial to the fallen of the two world wars. It displays symbols of the faith and of the Scottish Church. It was gifted by Mr Manby Absolon Gibson and designed by Sir Matthew Oucterloney. Bt. |
