(Glasgow Herald 12th of June 1922)
"In the public park, Shotts, yesterday afternoon a war memorial, erected to the men of Shotts and district who fell in the war, was unveiled and dedicated.
Mr Matthew Brown, manager of Shotts Iron Company (limited), Edinburgh, delivered an address, and Mrs Brown unveiled the memorial, which takes the form of an Obelisk, 30 feet high, with tables on three sides engraved with the names of 155 men, representative of all services.
Mr Gilfilan presided, and about 8000 people were present."
