Are there any memorials in Niddry or Kirkliston near Linlithgow?

Kirkliston certainly has a Memorial but I don't have a photo yet.

Kirkliston memorial is now posted. It falls within the City of Edinburgh boundaries so it is posted there.

I have also moved this topic to the requests section.

Adam, Malcolm

Thank you for the information. I am researching a soldier killed in the Great war - Pte. P McCavigan 1st Btn Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. He was born in or near Niddry. There are variations in the name spelling but I wondered if he was listed on any local memorial. The birth register spelling is McCavagan, he is listed on the CWGC register as McCavigan and on the SNWM as McGavagan.

Best wishes

Kevin

I had look at a map and thought Winchburgh would be a better bet than Kirkliston. I searched on 'Winchburgh War memorial' in Google and lo and behold:

http://www.winchburgh-memorial.co.uk/index.html

If you look up the Roll of Honour it lists Pte McGavigan but doesn't give any more information than you already have.

Date of Birth: Unknown

Place of Birth: Unknown

Family: Unknown

Home Details: Unknown

Number: 20318

Regiment: 1st Bn Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers

Death Details: Died 1st July 1916

Burial Details: Unknown

At least it confirms he was local to that area and he is commemorated on a memorial.

It is a new memorial and quite unusual, a Napoleonic Drummer.

Regards

Adam

Adam,

Thank you very much for the information. A number of my own relatives lived in Winchburgh but it never occurred to me to look there. I have the birth register extract for Patrick McCavagan on my computer at home. He was born in 1886 and was most likely a shale miner. I have a picture of him with my grandfather and a great uncle taken about 1912. He is buried in the Ancre Cemetery and I was able to visit there last year.
