Located overlooking the harbour in Scalloway. A most attractive cairn topped with a vivid sculpture.

I have been looking forward to this being posted (great pics). These were a particularly brave bunch of guys who fought the weather and the North Sea as well as the Germans. A great website gives details:

I second Paul's comments. These are excellent photographs of a very well looked after memorial to some very brave Norwegians.

Thanks

Further information on The Shetland Bus operation can be found at this link:
http://shetlopedia.com/Shetland_Bus

Details of the boats involved in the operation including those lost are contained within this article:
http://shetlopedia.com/The_Shetland_Bus_Boats
The information and pictures in these articles have been obtained from both sides of the North Sea, so gives a fairly balanced overview of the operation.

The sculpture of the 'Andholmen' which is mounted on the memorial was produced by Shetland Sculptor Alan Hart. The stones which make the base of the monument are from the home locations of those who lost their lives in the operation, and from the locations on Shetland which were connected with the operation. Further info on the memorial here:
