At the time I wondered why THE CITY OF PARIS was inscribed at the base of the right-hand window - and the significance.
I see his mother was (nee De Turckheim) possibly a native of Paris? |

Denys was my great uncle on my father's side of the family. His mother came from Alsace from the de Turckheim family. As far as I know Denys spent part of the war in intelligence because of his knowledge of French and German but he chose to go back to the front shortly before he was killed. We have a number of letters from him to his family and some photographs.
I'm not sure why the City of Paris is mentioned although it is certain that the family would have had links with Paris. |

A stained glass window in memory of Captain Denys Cooke,Black Watch,only son of the former Rector,was on Sunday dedicated by the Bishop of St Andrews.The chief lights of the window represent St George and St Denys,the patron saint of France,with underneath the arms,respectively,of the Black Watch and Paris. |
