Alexander Archibald's gallantry award and MID have been added to the CWGC record today. His brother, Capt John Archibald, was awarded the MC and Bar.
Citation.
1588 Sgt. A. ARCHIBALD 6th Bn. Gordon Highlanders (Banff & Donside). "For conspicuous gallantry at Neuve Chapelle on March 13th, 1915, when he carried despatches and collected wounded under heavy fire" (L.G. 30.6.15)
Mentioned in Despatches - LG 1 Jan 1916) _________________ Jim

That's great news to hear of an amendment to a CWGC record. How long did it take from initail request to the amendment going in?

It took a month to be added.
The military authorities would not have have become involved in this case since I supplied indisputable evidence of the awards having been made. It is likely the omission is tied to the fact Alexander has no NOK listed in the register. It is sad that the family link to his brother, Capt John Archibald ( MC & Bar), was not supplied by his parents in the 1920's.
I have always found CWGC most interested and helpful in keeping their records accurate, it helps to have a " link " to CWGC.
**** I fully expect to have a missing local soldier who died in the Ypres Salient in 1917, added to the CWGC Roll in the New Year.
UPDATE
**** 11 Nov 2008. CWGC advised today that 241689 Pte William Kelly Will of Peterhead will be added to their Debt of Honour Roll. See details at Peterhead Memorial thread.

Details of the 227 casualties on the Huntly War Memorial were placed on the internet at www.kinnethmont.co.uk/huntly on the 90th Anniversary of Armistice Day.
All were identified from various sources and the casualties confimed with the exception of five men whom I cannot verify 100% at present. These are, therefor, noted as - Believed to be correct. _________________ Jim

Tony Cobban was a non comm who I submitted to MOD / CWGc a few years ago. The case was accepted and his is now a war grave with his details recorded on the CWGC Roll. _________________ Jim

April, 1917.
Their relationship to ALEXANDER PIRIE being their son - inscription on their headstone in Huntly Cemetery. "Also their son ALEX PIRIE who fell in action 31st. July, 1917."
Hope this helps.
Aye the inscription (transcript) referred to above may well be in error to the extent perhaps of missing out the "grand" word to make the thing read " ... also their grandson ALEX PIRIE ....". So there's a resulting address of 60, George Street remaining which, coupled to a death certificate informant (maybe the father of said Alex. Pirie + his address) = confirmation of the parents.
